Calling All Students! Do you know a lot of History? Do you like Trivia Games/Competitions?  Consider forming a team (4-6 people) for the 5th Annual PMHS History Bowl sponsored by Rho Kappa Honor Society. The History Bowl will be taking place after school on Tuesday, December 11th from 3:15PM-6:45PM. To register a team, see Mr. Sirico in the SS Office for a Team Registration Form or print one out.

Registration forms are due by 3:15pm on Monday, December 3rd.

Please NOTE: There are only 16 slots in this year's tournament. If you form a team after 16 teams have registered, you will be placed on standby in the event a team has to back out. Teams MUST be a minimum of 4 people. We are limited in terms of space and time for the event and therefore need to restrict the number of teams. Sorry for any inconvenience.

The Winter Sports season begins Nov. 5.  All Winter athletes eligible to opt out must obtain the opting out form from Mr Luciana's office, fill it out completely, get it signed by your parent, coach and PE teacher, then turn it in to the Athletic Office.  The first day for Winter opt out eligibility is Nov. 13 provided the form has been turned in.  NO one will be allowed  to opt out without turning in a completed form.  Fall athletes must fill out and turn in a new form.  The last day to turn in the form is Nov. 16.

Any questions, see Coach Fin.

Your Monday root word of the week is: tort, which means: twist. This Latin root appears in many English words such as: contortion - a twisted shape or position; distort - to alter the shape or condition of; retort - reply in a manner that is supposed to change the effect of something previously said.

Wednesday Wellness Wish - That was Jimmy Eat World with “Middle.”  This is the theme of your Wednesday Wellness Wish of the week.  My favorite lyric from the song is, “Live right now, just be yourself.  It doesn’t matter if it’s good enough for someone else.” This is a solid piece of advice in order to feel good about yourself and be your confident and best self.  It is so easy to get caught up in what other people think of you.  When you really think about it, we all lose so much time and energy getting caught up in this struggle.  It is so much healthier to get support and friendship from your true friends and family and make sure you are being true to yourself.  We know that you all have so much to offer when you are just being yourself, so don’t lose sight of this.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us. –Helen Keller

MONDAY MINDFUL MOMENT: That was the great Randy Newman with “You’ve got a friend in me.”  This is the message of your Monday Mindful Moment of the week.  Mindfulness fosters compassion and kindness. Research suggests mindfulness training makes us more likely to help someone in need and increases activity in our brain that is involved in understanding the suffering of others and regulating emotions. So as we continue to be mindful, focus on living in the present and avoid being overwhelmed by what’s going on around us, let’s remember to be a friend to others. It could make all the difference.  Remember, you’ve got a friend in me.

BRAINTEASER: See if you can come up with an equation that uses exactly two threes (3) and two eights (8) to get the number 24. You can use multiplication (×), division (÷), addition (+), subtraction (-) negative signs, and parentheses. You can not use any advanced arithmetic operations, such as exponents, factorial, etc. Email your answers to Mr. Rothstein at jrothstein@pelhamschools.org
