QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment” – Oprah Winfrey
Mindful Monday Moment That was Jason Mraz and “Living in the Moment.” This is the inspiration for your Monday Mindful Moment. He sings about the importance of letting go of the thoughts that do not make us strong. One of the central aspects of mindfulness is the ability to focus on the present. This enables us to give ourselves a free pass for things that didn’t go our way in the past and to give ourselves a break from worrying about things that might not go well in the future. He goes on to sing, “I will not waste my days making up all kinds of ways to worry about all the things that will not happen to me.” Here is some advice to you as we head into midterms in a couple of weeks: concentrate about what you need to do in the present to prepare yourself; try your best to stay focused and attentive in class; and be confident about the future. That way you too can be “living in the moment.”
Wednesday Wellness Wish- That was Sia, featuring Kendrick Lamar, and “The Greatest.” These lyrics serve as the backdrop for your Wednesday Wellness Wish. They sing about not giving up in order to be the greatest alive. Resilience, perseverance, grit and not giving up are essential characteristics of successful people. Part of your social emotional wellness stems from feeling confident, successful, and like the greatest alive. In order to feel great, try not giving up on something that has been a real challenge for you. Use a growth mindset where you embrace the challenge, try new strategies and believe that you have the ability to improve and succeed. I know that you, and we, can be the greatest alive.
